Los Angeles based writer/performer ALEXEI has slashed together his eclectic array of musical inspirations into his debut single, KINGSTON BLUE from the forthcoming album Godspeed. As a novice songwriter, ALEXEI began unlikely collaborations with producers from Israel to England in order to achieve a unique sound that harkens both classic vintage songwriting and modern pop sensibilities.
One of his most immediate hallmarks is his soothing bass delivery that harkens back to unique voices ranging from Depeche Mode to Leonard Cohen to Interpol. The song is driven by a minimalist and classy beat with just enough of a smattering of counter melodies and orchestration to support his distinct delivery. For an artist that is still getting his feet wet, he shows an impressive amount of maturity and confidence.
In order to put together the best visual accompaniment, ALEXEI turned to award winning writer/director David N. Donihue, who has created a beautiful piece of cinema that tells a true story of cultures colliding, without the predictable cliches. What started as a 28 page treatment written together by ALEXEI and Donihue was boiled down into a jam packed and emotionally charged three minute video. The end result shares as much in common with classic cinematic story telling as it does with modern pop hypnotism. It’s themes of isolation, longing, desire, paranoia and ultimately acceptance, is a truly new take on the typical narrative. It’s urban setting and very genuine presentation of characters creates a clip that is as powerful socially as it is musically.
It is our distinct pleasure to be working hand in hand with ALEXEI to bring you this compelling and engaging new clip and hope you will enjoy it as much as we have! Please contact Andy Gesner and the HIP Video Promo crew at (732)-613-1779 or email us at [email protected] for more info on ALEXEI.
