“START TO END”
December 19, 2011
Hello cherished music video programmers, it’s Andy Gesner and the HIP Video Promo staff are eager to present a fresh face to the Hip Hop music scene, Griff The Great. With influences by amazing artists such as Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Andre 3000, and Bone Thugs and Harmony, not to mention partnering with Drake early in both of their careers, this Toronto based star represents the true artistry behind the power of eclectic beats and rhythms. With a style of his own, Griff The Great excites you and most importantly, he delivers a recognizable amount of anticipation with his album entitled Let Me Explain, which has already been recognized by notable industry publications such asCoast2Coast Mixtapes, Alwayz Therro 1 and AOL Music.
In the music industry, artists strive on the production of songs and beats. Here, we have an artist that does such, but his talent is an interesting translation of Hip Hop music. Griff the Great, also known as DCG, creates a certain style of music that combines Techno, Funk, and Pop elements to ignite a more playful and amiable approach to music. Among thousands of Hip Hop artists and producers, it is hard to stand out. But beneath the dust and rubble, Griff The Great shines with his individualistic character and intelligent presence.
In his new video, “Start To End,” we see a side of Griff The Great’s personality that presents us viewers with an immense amount of appreciation for his music. The video begins with somewhat of a Fight Club story line, where the main character confronts his alter ego. It shows a different side of Griff The Great, where he’s spending time within a large expensive house. Fancy cars and good-looking women surround him as he sings, all the while explaining that he is self aware without any hint of self-indulgence. At the end of the video, you will find yourself smirking at the cleverness of this daydreamer’s creation.
In the mind of the average person, there are millions of fantasies about living life in someone else’s shoes. His video encourages us to step back and respect what we have, because although it seems fun to run around and spend money, we must remember who we are and where we come from. It is not surprising that “Start To End” has even received a nod on the ballot for a Grammy, as well as having received high praise by being nominated for the Video of the Year for the prestigious Juno Award.
