Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate describes themselves as a rock/acoustic rock band from London featuring rock flute. Did you catch that? That’s three “rock”, one “flute” and one “acoustic” to describe their sound. The name itself is a mouthful but after a few listens to their sound you’ll recognize that a word like “adequate” doesn’t really do them justice. It’s a diverse and original sound, but offers a good feeling of familiarity for people who are fans of artists like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Jethro Tull, and countless others who have blazed their own trail in the wide world of rock and roll music.

Perhaps the best description comes from the band’s own bio that states “Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate play music ranging from haunting acoustic melancholia and rock originals, to flute-led covers of Hendrix, Guns and Roses, Pink Floyd, and Brahms.”

Principal singer, guitarist, keyboard player and songwriter Malcolm Galloway is a talented multi-instrumentalist who has been quickly making a name for his charismatic and playful performances on the London rock scene, with performances at venues such as the Fiddler’s Elbow, Nambucca, Water Rats, The Bowery and many more. In order to recreate the sounds in his head and the sounds of Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate, Malcolm has enlisted some of the most versatile and accomplished players on that side of the pond. Virtuoso classical and rock flautist Kathryn Thomas, rock steady bassist Mark Gatland, charismatic drummer Rudy Roo, and pyrotechnical guitar speed demon Ibon Ibon are his players of choice and the chemistry is instant. At the risk of using a tired analogy, it’s like someone threw all these different sounds and styles into a blender and turned it on high. But we’re talking about a super fancy Cuisinart food processor, not some cheap discount store blender that can’t handle these heavy doses!

It should be little surprise that the new video for the single “While I Still Can” is a whimsical and clever creation that doesn’t rely on fancy props or over the top graphics. Instead they take a unique approach and incorporate the classic tale of the boy in the tireless pursuit of winning his girl back! The video starts with the male lead receiving what can only be assumed to be a disconcerting text message from his significant other. His casual stroll down the block immediately becomes a mad dash to present her with a present that will charm her, be adored by her, and be something that she can keep forever and call her own. Throughout the clip it becomes apparent that Malcolm and his merry band of revelers are in fact the contents of the box and we get to witness the race against the clock to deliver the package on time. The box is tossed and trampled along the way, but the power of love is a great motivator and he arrives just in time. But will his present be enough to win her back?
