Earlier this year we introduced you to the infectious, deliciously salacious “Sweet & Low” from an artist whose presence and talent is the kind that stops a listener in their tracks. Her name is MAAD and she has returned with her follow up video, “Black Ice,” which is another shining example of why everyone from mtvU to BET have jumped on board to show their support!
MAAD crafts a sound that draws inspiration from the disco-funk era. For this singer-songwriter/model it makes perfect sense, since few eras of music have been as much about the visuals as it was the music. Of course, MAAD isn’t interested in simply rehashing a bygone era, but rather using it as a foundation to create something that doesn’t just sound modern, but something that is so far ahead of anything else being heard today. Produced by THE VAMP, her new EP Lé Funk, hits that hammer right on the proverbial head with nods to a classic sound but using technology that enhances every tasty bass line, every locked down backbeat, and every syllable of MAAD’s mesmerizing vocals.
In the new “Black Ice” video MAAD has pulled away the colorful visuals of “Sweet & Low” and opted for something much more minimalist in execution. It’s all about MAAD, the music, and the stunning form of the human body. Set in a wide open warehouse, the video begins with MAAD seated all alone in a chair, mid-room. As she serenades the camera with sultry authority a line of dancers emerge from behind her, each one slowly grooving and grinding to the music. With each slinking body and steamy move, the laser focus of MAAD’s eyes on the camera are a magnetic constant. With this kind of concentration and presentation, it would be a miracle if any viewer could break their gaze from the marvelous piece of seduction on screen.
We’re so psyched to be working with MAAD once again to bring her sights and sounds to an international audience.
