Fresh off a west coast tour with Howie Day and the glowing response from her new full length, Point Of No Return, Rebecca Perl is back with her newest music video offering, “Ordinary.” This Long Island-born singer songwriter now calls Austin home, where she has taken her love of the pop music of the late 90’s and penned a collection of songs that has resonated with fans and critics alike.
Take, for example, her last single for “Love, Love, Love.” It was a beautifully crafted song with so many hooks that Mike Tyson would be envious. The video was a lighthearted jaunt about the perils of digital dating that was a natural hit with viewers. She’s also recently released a new mashup duet video on her VEVO page to really flex her musical muscle. She teamed up with Mikel James to blend covers of songs by James Bay, Sam Smith, and Ed Sheeran into one singular piece. It’s a wildly impressive effort that really shows her diversity and strengths.
For her newest video “Ordinary,” Rebecca presents a beauty of a clip that is a perfectly minimalist video representation. In many ways it is the perfect compliment to the song itself. Aside from a few bits of percussion and background vocals, “Ordinary” is all about Rebecca’s voice, her on-point lyrics, and a tasteful execution of fretboard finger picking. To coincide with this spartan nature of the song, Rebecca made a video that focuses on nothing but these same elements. She’s seated on a stool with nothing but her guitar in hand, performing the song with ease and conviction. The secret star of this video is the tasteful and stylish lighting cast upon Rebecca from all angles. Director Sean Willis masterfully embraces the concept of “less is more” and as a result every facial movement and bit of body language is amplified to give this simple approach maximum payoff.
We’re all very excited to be working hand in hand with Rebecca Perl once again to bring you this dynamic new video.
