Like everything White Reaper does, the band’s trajectory from regional act renowned for its high intensity shows to national touring group was accomplished at the speed of 0 to 60. Their single and video for “Pills” is no different! After signing to Polyvinyl in early 2014 and releasing a self-titled EP that blasts through six tracks in a breakneck 15 minutes, the Reapers — Esposito, keyboardist Ryan Hater, bassist Sam Wilkerson, and drummer Nick Wilkerson — soon began working on new material to fill out their set.

Enter White Reaper Does It Again: a raucous debut full-length from a bunch of barely 20-somethings who have more fun on a Tuesday night than you do on a Saturday. Recorded in White Reaper’s hometown of Louisville, KY, with engineer Kevin Ratterman (Young Widows, Coliseum), WRDIA is a pure rock ’n’ roll adrenaline shot: vicious guitar scratches, elastic bass, sugary keyboard leads, and a thudding drums that will inevitably give your heartbeat a new rhythm. If you find your chest thumping a little too hard, we have just the thing for you…. “Pills.”

“Pills” is a video that has a bit of fun with the song’s namesake. It focuses around Esposito galavanting through a variety of scenarios looking particularly roughed up and wearing nothing but a hospital gown. He sure doesn’t seem himself, falling face first into a plate of eggs, unconsciously dropping into the deep end of the pool, even digging a hole in the ground. Perhaps digging his own grave? Throughout the video he regurgitates an abundance of pills as he wanders and his bandmates play the straight-faced counterparts to his solemn adventures. It seems that this man is just slightly overmedicated and maybe somebody got a little trigger happy with prescription pad!

Here at HIP we’re very excited to see this killer act continue to put out bombastic and dynamic music with our good friends at Polyvinyl Records. The band will be touring throughout 2015 across the US, as well as hitting Canada with label mates and HIP alumni Alvvays. We would love to get you out to see the band live, so please let us know if you’d like to make that happen.
