The Covers

Merge’s releasing The Covers! April 7, featuring reinterpretations of famed Merge artists, from the past to the present. It will contain 20 tracks. According to Tiny Mixtapes, some highlights include “the cleanest-sounding Times New Viking cover of The Arcade Fire’s ‘Neighborhood #1,’ the premiere of Calvin Johnson’s new band The Hive Dweller’s on their oddball cover of Superchunk’s ‘My Noise,’ and The Mountain Goats’ stripped down cover of East River Pipe’s ‘Drug Life.'”

The bad news? They’re releasing a limited number of them. A little over seven thousand of them will be all that exists in this world. If you’re interested, go to the Merge Web site and pre-order it.

And in addition to hearing some of your favorite bands reinterpreted, you’ll feel like you did something good for society, because Merge is donating the proceeds to charity. Imagine you, being useful to society.
