New Spoon tune


During a live set outdoors in Union Park, Chicago, at the Pitchfork Music Festival, Spoon broke out of their usual repertoire to bang out a new song on that classy keyboard of theirs.

It features throaty shouts from Britt Daniel, and chugging piano chords. A loud guitar gives the song a dissonant flavor. It’s almost like the keyboard and guitar are competing for the downbeat. And they both sound very angry. This song makes me think of Bauhaus, and that dark, jangly feel of some of their albums.

In the beginning strains of the song, Daniel chants, in a creepily sexual way, “all right lets do you in reverse, someone call a hearse.”

And out in the audience somewhere, at some point, some unknown saint recorded a bootleg. Thank God. Here it is, for your enjoyment:
