Secret Friend is a project that has literally traveled the globe in order to find its voice. The brainchild of Secret Friend is Steven Fox, who was a working musician in Seattle and London in the 80’s, only to put his career on hold and move to South East Asia where he became a wildly successful entrepreneur. The music never left his soul, however, and in 2012 he returned to music full time and created Secret Friend.

The project features Fox as the principle creative party, where he blends a wide variety of influences into a single voice. Whether it be acoustic guitars, digital programming, pop melodies, psychedelic production, or a straight forward rock vibe, the end result is always simultaneously intriguing and engaging. On the newest album, Sleeper, Fox enlisted several guest vocalists and each track has an accompanying music video. Today we are excited to bring you three of those videos; “I Don’t Know You,” “Nobody Listens,” and “Orbital Velocity.”

“I Don’t Know You” is a psychedelic anthem teeming with angelic harmonies, akin to HIP favorites of Montreal. The video is a bit of a creeper, showing the not-so-elegant realities of obsession and stalking. Generally the relationship between restaurant server and patron ends with a simple “Can I get the check?” but not for the guy as he imagines a world that doesn’t exist and pursues a fantasy probably best left alone.

“Nobody Listens” is a significantly more upbeat track full of youthful exuberance run amok, with a terrific vocal delivery and chorus that is immediately memorable. The video is sinister in its own way, but in a significantly charming way. The video focuses around a foxy young lady in her loft space being pampered by two eager gentlemen who are anxious to cook, clean, and satisfy her in any way they can. And satisfy they do! We’re including both a censored and uncensored version for those who are a little more daring in their tastes.

Lastly, we have “Orbital Velocity.” Ethereal, visceral, and earthy. Visually it is a collage of imagery presented through a mashup of motion graphics and vintage photos and video. It tells a tale of space exploration and interstellar colonization and exploration. It feels vintage and futuristic, implying that though the landscapes may change, the cycle often remain the same.

We are very excited to be working with Secret Friend to bring you this ambitious and electrifying new videos. They are all wildly unique and perfect for your programming needs. Please don’t hesitate to let us know what we can do to help get all of them into your programming!
