THE BLACK PACIFIC
“LIVING WITH GHOSTS”
Steve Gurrero & John DeTemple
October 28, 2011
People keep saying punk rock is dead, but people also keep saying that the world is going to end… we’ve yet to see either actually happen. It’s Andy Gesner and the HIP crew with a brand new video from the So Cal punk rock super band The Black Pacific, former Pennywise frontman Jim Lindberg and former Dropkick Murphys guitarist Marc Orell. “Living With Ghosts” is here, its loud, its real punk rock at its finest, back with a vengeance and headed straight for the mosh pit.
When Jim Lindberg left Pennywise after twenty years of service at the helm to the punk rock community, no one expected this kind of a comeback. The Black Pacific comes at your face like a freight train, all brakes cut. The ferocity of this release has got the entire punk community up and at it, with a universal and unanimous “hell yeah!”Alternative Press has given the album 4 out of 5 stars raving that the record is “the most impressive [Lindberg] has done in years.” The band also recently graced the cover of AMP Magazine. The Black Pacific has been appraised by numerous outlets in the music community including AbsolutePunk, Rock Sound, PunkNews, Ultimate Guitar, KROQ, Alter The Press and many more. The band has made a big splash at The Warped Tour this summer and is now out on a headlining run before joining up with Rise Against and Flogging Molly.
If you’ve ever moshed or skated to Pennywise, “Living With Ghosts” will not disappoint, featuring driving drums along with all the chugging and riffing that you’ve come to expect from your favorite punk rock bands. The song offers up more whoa’s to keep any true skate punk happy and satisfied. It could even be said that The Black Pacific a more varied track list than any Pennywise record. The “Living With Ghosts” video explores a post-SkyNet era, where the world is taken over by “the system” and is no longer under our control. Everyone is fenced in, phased out, and harvested. There is no free will or thought, and the only hope is to rebel in full punk fashion, ditching efficiency for human compassion. And with all the outsourcing, resourcing and optimizing going on, The Black Pacific may not be too far off from the truth. Maybe the system is already here and we’re all comatose, and indeed, “Living With Ghosts.”
