Greetings programming community, it’s Andy Gesner and the staff from HIP Video Promo! Matthew Embree has to be one of the busiest men in independent music. Lead Singer and Guitar player in the incomparable RX Bandits – a boldly-progressive group with a rabid, cult like following. Along with the rest of the Los Angeles-based quintet, he’s toured the nation from coast to coast; yet he’s still found the time to Produce and contribute guitar, bass, and vocals to the harrowing Sound Of Animals Fighting (Epitaph) . Rounding it out, he’s just finished Waxwane, his debut “solo” record – a misleading term, since he’s had invaluable help from RX Bandits, TSOAF drummer Christopher Tsagakis on several cuts. Going by the name Love You Moon, he makes the kind of straight-to-the-gut, irresistible folk-pop that’s in sadly short supply on the modern airwaves.

“David’s Birthday”, the lead single, is a piece of bouncy piano pop; Embree’s vocal is soulful and brash, and he sings with the confidence and assurance of a commercial rock star. But this is no piece of sweet radio-candy: like the rest of the Love You Moon songs, “David’s Birthday” is spiked with arresting imagery and challenging themes. Embree has never been afraid to be outspoken – stripped down to piano, guitar, and occasional drums, the songs on Waxwane are among his most eloquent and provocative ever.

Embree sits alone at the piano in the “David’s Birthday” clip; he hasn’t got company, but he’s entirely self-possessed. The young musician is bathed in blue light, and the room he sits in looks curiously cold until his dynamic performance heats up the corners. He plays with passion and intensity, and as he does, cartoon representations of his lyrics dance across the keys. Sometimes the words themselves spring to life in primary colors; on other occasions, scenes from the story are drawn in midair. As Embree sings of allegiance, animated flags of world powers hang in front of the piano, cartoon flames leaping from the illustrated fabric.

We are stoked to be working with Cathy Pellow and Marc Jetton at Sargent House to bring you this top-notch clip. We will also be getting our hands on a supply of the new Love You Moon CD Waxwane, so please get in touch for your on-air giveaway needs!
