While most DIY artists think locally and regionally when booking their gigs, Shelita Burke’s empowering, one gig at a time success story shows the impact a unique artist can have on a global level. With that personal approach in mind, we’re very excited to bring you the incredibly in-depth and intimate new video for “Transfixed.”
Over the past two years the Seattle raised singer/songwriter has become a true musical citizen of the world, bringing her fresh indie folk-jazz and what she dubs “emotional art music” on self-generated world tours that hit France, Morocco, England, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Iceland, Japan, and Wales. Closer to home, in between overseas stints, she’s also done Seattle to NYC tours. Her debut EP Transfixed was released in November 2015 and reached #14 Best selling album on Amazon. Keep in mind, this kind of success was completely organic, built one fan at a time, one show at a time.
For the “Transfixed” video, Shelita relies on little more than her own dominant presence to paint a picture that relay the depth and emotion of the song. As she rides atop a double decker bus through the European city streets, she sings the song with a look of distraction in her eyes. As everyday scenes flash onto the screen it’s clear that she herself is transfixed on her lover. Each gentle touch and soft caress is amplified in her mind, and the black and white production only enhances the mystery even further. There are no fancy tricks or gimmicks here, just a girl, her voice, and her music.
In an age of digital instant gratification, it’s so incredibly refreshing to connect with an artist who is still willing to put in the hard work and build something organically and permanent. We’re very excited for what lies ahead for Sheltie Burke, and are here to do whatever we can to help get her into your programming.
