Ottawa artist NDMA ( Nilton De Menezes + Art ) is breaking new ground through an infusion of our generations choice genres. His has one by one gained a cult following in the ever-expanding and diverse music scene of his nation’s capital. The urban/electronic -hip-hop sound of these singles bring together music lovers across the board by giving them a fresh perspective that gets them moving with an “infectious rhythm” while also promoting interaction amongst artists in the community. His newest offering, “Brush Your Shoulder,” is a killer combination of skill, swagger, and a showcase of the community from which he comes.
Drawing upon his musical upbringing in Angola in conjunction with his hip-hop and experimental electronic influences (Royksopp, Kanye West, M.I.A) he was able to create a collection of tracks that truly represent himself as an artist. He does this in part by collaborating with emerging artists of all kind. His performances are multi-dimensional, often times taking place in unconventional venues such as art galleries and vintage stores while displaying photography and fashion from local artists and designers. NDMA has developed a reputation for the overall unique and engaging experience he is able to orchestrate time and time again. While listeners will love his music on its own, his performances will continue to stimulate a buzz of excitement in a music scene that needed a stir. “Brush Your Shoulder” is a demonstration of that buzz.
For the single “Brush Your Shoulder,” NDMA delivers a jolt to the system of epic musical proportions. The video begins on the streets as he rolls through with his career, chasing and spitting rhymes to a retreating camera. From the alleys to the picturesque beauty of downtown architecture, and then off into a stylish lounge area, the music is thumping and the bodies are moving. At times synchronized and at times spontaneous, the groove is ever-present. Fans of dance, hip-hop, and pop will all come together on this one, as there is a little bit for everyone. And ultimately that’s the beauty of music, right?
