Howdy programmers, it’s Andy Gesner and the HIP Video promo crew passing you a video from an NFL superstar who decided to turn lemons into a full blown music production! Bret Lockett has gained national recognition for his role as a safety playing for the New England Patriots. Lockett has always been passionate about the music scene since when he was still a kid, and now has turned a season-ending injury into an opportunity to pursue one of his dreams with “Let’s Go.” Citing, Michael Jackson as his main influence, the footballer returns to the studio for the first time since his high school days to bring you a feel-good hip hop/R&B anthem about treating a woman right.

“Let’s Go” is a track consisting of classic hip hop and R&B arrangement, including a piano and a catchy electronic drum beat. The song features Lockett trying on flow and rhyme for size, as he creates his own unique style of lyric delivery. The track is filled with grandiose promises to the woman in his sights, and you can believe it. Unlike most new contestants in the game, when Lockett raps about his swagger, he’s actually got it to back up his words! This sort of notion is absolutely impressive, since it is rare that ego actually meets reality on an equal playing field. It is also noticeable that Lockett avoids the modern rapper cop out of auto-tuning his voice beyond recognition, instead putting his chops on the line. He is a football star after all, and his confidence radiates on this ode to beauty.

The song deals with how a gentleman must treat a lady, and the video certainly delivers on this ideology. Lockett takes his prized beauty and gives her the world in this music video date of royal proportions. Shot in the lovely paradise of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Lockett takes his girl to any woman’s (or man’s for that matter) dream getaway. The video is full of gorgeous scenery, including a scene with a tiger that is more than happy to show off his photogenic jaws and a pair of dolphins who nuzzle up to the NFL star and his lady. Brett Lockett even employs a helicopter in this care-free, sexy, feel-good romp.

“Let’s Go” is the leading single from Lockett’s upcoming mixtape The Campaign, which he hopes will come across as not only a signifier of his ability to enter a new industry, but also as positive and motivational. He dubs it as something of a “gentleman’s mixtape” that doesn’t disrespect human beings or exploits women, something that often occurs in the genre. Lockett doesn’t need to lace his tracks with hate because he is a nationally known role model and got there by being good at what he does.

All of us at HIP are honored to help launch this football star’s ambitious aspirations in the music world. It is always commendable when a newcomer to the industry formulates his own style and approach like Bret Lockett has done with “Let’s Go.” We hope your viewers will find this summer-ready hip hop/R&B clip to be as uplifting as all of us did here at the HQ.
