J-HARRIS (ROBERT L. HARRIS JR.)
Krucifix Productions (Marlin Goodwin)
June 22, 2016
With his first offering for “Music For Ya Soul,” J-Harris introduced himself to an eager audience that was quick to embrace his infectious soul, R&B-infused offerings. The video celebrated J-Harris and his crew as they roll around the city of Charlotte, taking in the sights, sounds, and personalities that inspire him.
For his new video, “Narcotic,” J-Harris approaches the title track of his new EP, with a more thought-provoking concept. That’s not to say that he has lost any of the wondrous sound that defines him. He channels the classics like Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Teddy Pendergrass, fusing them with a meticulous modern production that makes the valleys swoon low and the peaks soar even higher.
“Narcotic” takes a painfully honest look at a heartwrenching problem in our country; one of domestic abuse and the great lengths victims will go to escape the pain. The video revolves around a young lady trapped in a fearful, abusive relationship. With no way out in her mind, her desperation leads her to desperate measures via the bathroom medicine cabinet. In her insensate state, she begins to imagine what life would be like with a man who would truly appreciate her and treat her right. J-Harris is right there to answer that call. The sparks are real, even if it is just a temporary mirage, and the impression is strong enough that when she does regain consciousness the look in her eyes are clearly one of acceptance that things must change in her life.
