Hello pals! It’s Andy Gesner and the staff from HIP Video Promo, here with an inspired clip from a winning California duo. Since the tamagotchi is itself a metaphor in an egg-shaped container, it’s probably no surprise that it’s inspired writers and musicians to sing its praises. It’s the perfect proxy for a relationship: an adorable item that needs constant attention and care, thrives on love, and will wither and die if left alone. Treat your tamagotchi wrong, and you’re a cad; treat it right, and it’s a pretty safe bet you know how to please your partner. The two talented members of LOONER love their tamagotchi – and when you read between the lines, it’s crystal clear that they’re also talking about each other.

And if you can’t pick that up from the song, Nicole Barnette’s video for “I Love My Tamagotchee!” demonstrates it beyond a doubt. Zoë and Angel Roché dance together in front of a hot pink background, swaying back and forth to the music they’ve created, laughing, stealing glances, singing their heads off. They’re perfectly attuned; their movements are a kind of dialogue; they radiate intimacy and comfort. Angel Jr.’s long black hair swings around the frames just as Zoë’s wild blonde locks do: they’re distinct, sure, but they’re very much part of the same picture. You don’t have to be told that they’ve lived together for years, or that they’ve had a successful aesthetic partnership even before that – it’s all apparent in their engaging behavior.

But they’re not keeping the love all to themselves (or, for that matter, to their tamagotchi alone). Instead, Barnette takes to the streets of Los Angeles, where ordinary citizens gleefully announce that they, too, love their tamagotchi. Some of them have an egg baby to display; others just want to dance to LOONER’s infectious beat and shout along to the chorus. As for the Rochés, their own tamagotchi is a glowing, fist-sized orb that lives in a well-traveled suitcase. Angel extracts it during the breakdown, wonders at it for a few precious seconds, and then tucks it away for safe keeping.

Angel Roché Jr. knows quite a bit about the value of luggage: he’s been around the globe as a musician in Ziggy Marley’s touring band. He’s put those instrumental skills to good use in LOONER, crafting irresistible, splashy pop-rock tracks for Zoë to grace with her voice. The pair’s sparkly, propulsive, and danceable songs – “I Love My Tamagotchee!” is just the most prominent example – have helped establish LOONER as one of the most interesting and entertaining underground acts in Los Angeles. And they’re no studio-only group, either; this summer, they’ll be performing at the Venice Beach Music Festival, and sharing that love with thousands of listeners.

We’re excited to be working with the folks in the LOONER camp to bring you this engaging clip. If you need more info, call Andy Gesner at 732-613-1779 or e-mail us at info@HIPVideoPromo.com.
