M. Maggie wears many hats. She’s a poet. She’s an artist. Most importantly, she’s a stellar musician whose blending of genres and influences creates more than just a sonic pleasure. It creates an entire landscape of vibes, inviting listeners of all walks of life into her fold. Today we are excited to bring you her video for
“Did It For U,” a video that fascinates the senses and delivers a mesmerizing dose of beauty.
She is currently based in New York, but has also called Houston and New Orleans home, each one contributing a unique piece to her musical sum. Unlike many artists who try to hit listeners over the head with their influences, M. Maggie is a master of nuance. A love of jazz and soul is prevalent in her music, which is soaked in tasteful bits of electronic production, but they all seamlessly blend together like a delicious cake fresh out of the oven.
“Did It For U” is the perfect example of these various influences that can be heard all across her new EP, Vienna Genesis. Maggie’s voice is front and center as she intimately sings about the need for faith and belief in each other in relationships, and the unshakeable power of confidence and trust. While she serenades the mic a bass line grooves in and out of the foreground, and tasteful bed of mixed electro and analog instrumentation is laid down as a compliment.
The video for “Did It For U” is everything you want it to be, but nothing like what you expect it to be. It begins with a simple black and white close up of M. Maggie singing shyly at the camera, almost like a test reel sample. While this captivating element remains the backbone of the video, the simplicity is built upon with layer after layer of creative brilliance.
Employing everything from slight lens manipulation to full on kaleidoscopes of color to animated collage of cut outs, the video bends and weaves across the spectrum with ease. All the while, M. Maggie keeps her eyes locked onto the camera, never breaking concentration on the object of her attention on the other side of the lens.
We’re all incredibly excited to be working with M. Maggie to introduce her to viewers across the video spectrum. Please get in touch with us and let us know if you’d like to get your hands on a copy of her new Vienna Genesis EP, or if there is anything else we can do do on our end to get this video into your programming.
