New This Week: “Native Gardens” music video from An Old Friend, plus new music videos from Mic Nickels x Method Man, The Sextape, Marlon Davis, and GaREE All

No matter what corner of the globe they’re from, a good musician will connect with listeners anywhere and everywhere. And in our opinion, music videos are a powerful tool for ensuring that connection transpires! The latest HIP Picks – Weekly Client Roundup is here; take a look at the videos, and learn more about the clips by reading below.

“Native Gardens” Music Video: An Old Friend (alternative/rock)

Composed of high school friends Cody Kohler (lead vocals and guitar), Eddy Barrera (guitar and vocals), Cory Brown (bass), and Frank Facompre (drums), An Old Friend exhibits a stunning attunement to one another at this early stage of their careers. “Native Gardens” is a deep dive into the sublime, paired with a dreamy video (directed by Doni Rawan) that follows a lone sojourner through forests, cities, mountains, and more.

“El Matador” Music Video: Mic Nickels x Method Man (rap)

NYC alt-rap hero Mic Nickels has collaborated with Jean Baylor from Zhané, Ian Hendrickson-Smith of The Roots, Rockness Monsta, Rah Digga, Timbo King, and Kurious – his latest collaboration features the legendary Method Man of Wu-Tang Clan. “El Matador” is a highlight of Bars For Days, and its video (directed by Mic Nickels) presents the duo as urban superheroes, delivering their verses and facing down opponents who don’t stand a chance.

“Queen of the Fools” Music Video: The Sextape (rock)

The members of The Sextape are Russian, but they’ve got the guts to question the government’s line on the brutal invasion of Ukraine. Since the attack on Kiev changed the calculus for everybody in Moscow and beyond, they’ve been on the move: first to Turkey and finally to Argentina. The “Queen of the Fools” clip (directed by Roman Safin) was shot in the glamorous but gritty clubs of Istanbul, and it oozes danger, charm, & dark beauty.

“Handyman” Music Video: Marlon Davis (pop)

Known as the “Vibes Master” of Negril, Jamaica, vocalist and master entertainer Marlon Davis is breaking onto the American pop scene, while taking inspiration from Afro-beats and Reggaeton, thanks to his Afro-Latin-Caribbean roots. Full of playfulness, wit, and innuendo, the “Handyman” video shows him on his daily tasks as a handyman.

“Mother Tough” Music Video: GaREE All (spoken word)

After a successful career as a professor of political science and an IT specialist, and later as an administrator and professor of computer information technology, GaREE All is introducing us to his next metamorphosis as a singer-songwriter and entertainer. “Mother Tough” is an inspired tribute to mothers everywhere, and – raised by a single mother himself and well-familiar with the grit it takes to be a mom – GaREE directed and edited the song’s accompanying video.
