Jana Mashonee is a Native American singer with an impressive range. Her most recent work is a fluttering cover of Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Change.” The guitarist, Derek Miller, is awesome on guitar as well. He rips through solos as if they were paper.

Here’s the video for “A Change is Gonna Change.” It features the portraits of various Native American children, from the past to the present. Mashonee is collecting proceeds for her work to give to her own non-profit foundation, Jana’s Kids Foundation, which helps Native American and Aboriginal children get ahead in school through scholarships and motivational programs.

Both of these guys have impressed a lot of people–Miller is a Juno Award-winner, and Mashonee has racked up several Native American Music Awards for her 2006 release, American Indian Story.

Mashonee’s most recent album, New Moon Born, is R&B sung like a diary–it’s personal and intimate. Definitely one to check out.
