Dezert Eez formed at Western Michigan University, located in Kalamazoo, MI and have been representing their state ever since. The trio worked together, during a watered down rap era, with a common goal of the resurgence of underground hip hop. When the group first made their music downloadable on the net, their following quickly exploded across the nation in the same year, earning them an opening slot for Wu Tang’s Capadonna Tour in 2004. Dezert Eez followed up the tour with their first mixtape, The Realness, which won widespread critical praise that focused especially on the group’s lyrics. The buzz helped them earn a raft of high-profile gigs, including shows with KRS-1, Dead Prez, Slum Village and a mini tour with Wu Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck. The group leapt to a bigger stage in 2008 when 5-Star, one of their members, teamed up with C-Rayz Walz, and Killah Priest and Bronze Nazareth of the Wu Tang Clan on indie heavyweight label Babygrande Records to form The Almighty. The album also featured hip hop legends Canibus, Keith Murray, and Planet Asia. Now Dezert Eez continue to gain momentum with their latest record titled Ghettoboxx, which features guest vocals by Ghostface Killah, Raekwon and The Game. As a testament to the group’s hard work ethic, Dezert Eez have also stayed in blog headlines by a constant supply of mixtapes (including the widely publicized Call of Duty: The Black Ops) after the album’s release, as well as by staying on the road in support of their record.
