“CLEMENTINE”, “A SUCKER FOR YOUR MARKETING”, “THE WAY SOUND LEAVES A ROOM”

Greetings programmers, it’s Andy Gesner and the HIP Video promo staff with a video package that will haunt you, rock you, and leave you completely awestruck! Last November we’ve had the pleasure of introducing some of you to Texas indie rocker Sarah Jaffe and her spectacular “Clementine” video. Now she returns with a new track and a gorgeously shot live DVD release that will make you wonder where this musical salvation has been all your life.
Ms. Jaffe is celebrated for how comfortably she conveys palpable vulnerability. Last year’s Suburban Nature, produced by John Congleton (St Vincent, David Byrne, Explosions in the Sky, Rouge Wave), earned her comparisons to early Cat Power and a series of dates as Norah Jones’s handpicked opening act. She has been featured in as a must see act in The New York Times, USA Today,NYLON, Pop Candy, Interview, NPR Music, The Radar, Paste (one of 2010’s best albums), American Songwriter (nearly flawless review),LA Weekly, and The Wall Street Journal to name a few. However, don’t mistake Jaffe’ ability to transpose her most fragile emotions into song as a sign of weakness. You will find this songstress at her most confident in “Clementine” and “Sucker For Your Marketing” performed live at the Wyly Theatre in Dallas, Texas.
Sarah Jaffe is backed by a spectacular arrangement of warm lights and a full band in these two offerings from her brand new live DVD titled The Way Sound Leaves A Room. “Clementine” is flawlessly recreated on stage, not taking a bit of perfection out of the track, instead adding a burst of energy to the track that cannot be experienced on record. Shot on an array of cameras set up around the venue, the performance is captured in full spirit. In fact, the sound quality on this DVD rivals many studio recordings, as you might even be able to taste the tear drops from the audience. To transition from the old to the new, Sarah has also included a live performance her new bass driven track “Sucker For Your Marketing,” which the singer wrote while experimenting with new instruments. “I couldn’t really write and every time I picked up a guitar I would get frustrated,” Jaffe explains her newfound process. “So in order to get out of the dilemma I bought a bass and a drum set at a pawn shop and just started writing.” This performance is a full on rock extravaganza as Sarah Jaffe grabs a bass and fills the theater with a much bigger sound than anything on Suburban Nature. “Sucker For Your Marketing” is clever, not just in sound and delivery, but also in length, not wasting time on loops and repetition as the song explodes and comes to a quick finish.
Because Sarah Jaffe is a natural overachiever, she has also included a demo version of a new track that ended up serving as the name for this entire release. “The Way Sound Leaves A Room” is an atmospheric track, both airy and intimate at the same time. The video finds the singer contemplating over an upcoming event in her life and then getting into a car to face it. The clip serves as an introduction to her live DVD as she arrives at sound check. Don’t let the word “demo” fool you, this cut is anything but rough and is a great way to bridge the last record and what’s to come.
We are thrilled to be able to fill your screens and speakers with a live sound of the highest quality. Sarah Jaffe is a star in every sense of the word and, thanks to Kirtland Records, she can now shine amongst your prized playlists.
