With the release of his first solo CD effort, Soul Searching and his new single “Flow”, an instrumental jazz/funk fusion collection that interweaves music inspired by his much admired influences, Mitchell Coleman Jr. has fulfilled a lifelong dream of creating the music he hears in his heart and feels in his soul – and sharing it with the world.

Even as a teen, Coleman had been enthused and motivated by the artistry and skillfulness of trumpeter Miles Davis and renowned bassists Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Mark Adams (founder of funk band Slave), Louis ‘Thunder Thumbs’ Johnson, and former Sly and the Family Stone alum and ‘Father of the Thump’ Larry Graham. But it was jazz-fusion virtuoso Jaco Pastorius who influenced him the most. Jaco’s take-no-prisoners style inspired him to remove all self-imposed limitations, while exploring the endless possibilities his instrument presented.

Soul Searching may be Coleman’s first solo work, but now that the former sideman has completely released his own creative energy – unrestrained by the expectations and constraints of other artists – it’s sure to be just the beginning! And today, we bring you a fine piece of that hard work, with the new video for “Flow,” co-produced by veteran Motown producer Michael B. Sutton.

The video for “Flow” does exactly that, as it effortlessly weaves from start to finish with a light and funky vibe that brings together soul singing, tasteful saxophone skills, and of course, some of the slickest bass playing this side of the International Date Line! The video features Mitchell & his band setting up on the open hills, dressed in matching meticulous white wardrobes. Down the hills there are park goers and folks tuning into the sounds coming from the hills. They don’t exactly know where it’s coming from, but like angels singing from above, the music carries far and wide and touches people of all walks of life. Not only is it a testament to the power of music, it’s also a specific endorsement of the universal appeal of “Flow” and the sounds of Mitchell Coleman, Jr.

We’re very excited to be working with Mitchell and his team to bring you this tasty new clip and to offer you copies of his new album, Soul Searching. It’d be our greatest pleasure to hook you up with those and anything else you may need to get this video into your programming.
