Blog Flashback Friday – Halestorm – “Takes My Life” May 18, 2018May 18, 2018 Molly Hudelson Flashback Friday, Halestorm Here at HIP Video Promo, we’ve been working hard to promote music videos since the year 2000. It’s important to us to help younger and independent artists get the recognition they deserve, and it’s exciting to be on the ground floor with artists that become household names (and with nearly 2800 videos under our belts in 18 years, there are quite a few). Every Friday, we’ll be sharing a “Flashback Friday” video, where we get to reflect on one of our favorite videos from a few years ago. Red Lion, Pennsylvania natives Elizabeth “Lzzy” (yes, the missing “i” is intentional) Hale (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards, and piano) and her brother Arejay Hale (drums) have been making music together for over two decades, since before they were even in high school; they released an EP, Don’t Mess With The Time Man, in 1999. Guitarist Joe Hottinger joined Halestorm in 2003, and bassist Josh Smith joined in 2004. In 2005, Halestorm signed to Atlantic Records, ready to bring their hair-raising, hard-rocking music to the masses. For a band that spends the majority of the year on the road (they often play well over 200 shows a year, and have shared the stage with everyone from Alter Bridge to Papa Roach to Shinedown), it comes as no surprise that Halestorm’s first release on Atlantic Records was a live EP, One and Done (2006). Of course, it was only fitting that the music video for “Takes My Life” was a live clip as well. Sure, there are bright lights shining on the stage, but the real electricity here is in the band’s performance. It’s raw, grainy, and candid, and gives a glimpse behind-the-scenes into the band’s life on the road. To date, Halestorm have released three studio albums: Halestorm (2009), The Strange Case Of… (2012), and Into the Wild Life (2015). They’ve also released three cover EPs (ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP , ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP , and ReAniMate 3.0: The CoVeRs eP ) and a live album, Live in Philly 2010. In 2013, their song “Love Bites… (So Do I)” won the Grammy award for Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance; they were not only the first female-fronted group to win the award, but the first to even be nominated! As per usual, Halestorm will be spending most of this year on the road. They’ve currently got festival performances and headlining shows announced all over North American and Europe, stretching from now till the end of October; head to the band’s website to see if they’ll be in a city near you! We’ve been big fans of Halestorm from the start, and we’re thrilled to see what they do next! We can’t wait to see who becomes the next break-out artist.
