Spin

Spin magazine has given four HIP bands gold stars, and spots on the famed music mag’s ‘Best Albums of 2008’ list. Congrats to all!

5 — Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes

Although the Fleet Foxes do what a lot of bands do–reach back to grab at rootsy rock influences–Spin applauds them for doing something very rare. For embellishing its music with a “sense of mystery that no one’s really summoned since Oh, Inverted World changed Natalie Portman’s life.”

8 — Hot Chip, Made In The Dark

Spin calls Hot Chip’s type of music giddy “blue-eyed robo-soul,” utilizing keyboards which “sound like lasers.”

13 — No Age, Nouns

Randy Randall’s guitar, according to Spin, switchers back and forth between “glittering instrumental swells and diesel fuzz.”

32 — The Gutter Twins, Saturnalia

Spin says “Mark Lanegan’s narcoleptic, baritone moan and the Greg Dulli’s mischievous, soulful wail give these mid-tempo dirges, awash in revelations and Revelation, a touch of grace that recalls their classic work without repeating it.”
