Last year we brought you the rocktastic and funkalicious jam “K-yotic” by Malina Moye, one of the most critically acclaimed axe slingers on the modern musical landscape. The song featured the iconic Bootsy Collins and helped propel the single to the top of the Billboard Twitter 140 chart and on Billboard‘s Hot Single sales chart at #11. Clearly, Malina knows how to rock. For hew single “Are You The One,” she pivots her style to a more subdued approach, but never losing the ferocity that has earned her praise in press spots such as Billboard Magazine and The Examiner. The brand new video for “Are You The One” ratchets up the soul and blues side of things, delivering a groove and vibe that will melt your ears and soothe your pulse. 

While her upside-down Fender Stratocaster may be her most immediate feature, Malina is defined by much more. She embraces her unique brand, bringing charisma, fire, and emotion to music unlike any artist in the world today. Her fashion sense, stage presence and unorthodox style of guitar voicing has garnered praises from legends to newcomers alike. Her latest record, Rock & Roll Baby, was touted by Guitar World Magazine as “insanely good” with “a seductive passion and feel that Malina brings in her guitar playing.” One of the standout tracks on the album has to be “Are You The One,” which slowly grooves to a mid-tempo beat with a healthy dose of sultry organ, thumping bass, and of course, ripping lead guitar. All of this paints the perfect palette for Malina to sing over top.

The video tugs hard on the heart strings. After a young woman (played by Malina) is struck by a car and lies in a coma, her boyfriend is devastated and races to her bedside. Watching him in her hospital room from an unconscious state, she asks the eternal question “are you the one?” She now must fight to stay alive and break free of her coma to be with him again. Their past is relived in black and white scenes interspersed along with colorful and passionate performance footage of Malina and her band absolutely killing the song on every level. The video is an all around emotional roller coaster and you’re sure to feel your pulse quickening in your chest by the end.
