Never Shout Never

Here at HIP Video Promo, we’ve been working hard to promote music videos since the year 2000 and have over 4,000 videos under our belt. Due to our experience and expertise in the marketing world, we have promoted some of the best musical acts of our time and inspired a shift in American radio. It’s important to give these artists a platform, and we have done that but it’s their talent that shoots them into instant stardom. Every Friday, we’ll be sharing a “Flashback Friday” video, where we get to reflect on one of our favorite videos from a few years ago.

We have always been super honored to be working with one of the biggest forces in pop-punk history. NeverShoutNever! came to us in 2008 to promote their music video for “Big City Dreams” and we were ecstatic to be working with these guys that had a true talent and a good head on their shoulders.

Just check out the star quality of “Big City Dreams”:

They certainly left “this pathetic excuse for a town” and hit it big in just a matter of months before posting their first video on the internet. The video captures lead singer Christofer Drew’s push and pull in his romantic relationship- contemplating spending the rest of his life with his love. NeverShoutNever! possess songs that carry themes of first love and heartbreak. The majority of their songs are slow-paced, to be compared with Mayday Parade’s acoustic songs like “Terrible Things.” One can say that focusing on the topics of first love can be mundane but their secrets lie in the slow pace, light production and drawn out vocals to bring out the power and intensity of the lyrics. They create a narrative that multiple people connect to on a subconscious level. They deal with teen angst, but with a clearer head and more understanding towards their sadness as the cause can be quickly identified. With an attractive and vulnerable lead singer- it was a perfect magnet for fangirls that have helped elevate them throughout their career. It is their slow paced but powerful depressing lyrics that have influenced pop-punk throughout time.

All the way in Missouri, NeverShoutNever! began as a one-man band featuring Christofer Drew. In 2008 he officially released his first recording the Yippee EP. The whole music industry was on his side as the merchandise got featured in Hot Topic and he made an appearance on MTV. Due to the rising success, he collaborated with respected producer Butch Walker to record his second project What Is Love? in 2010. After this album Drew thought he needed a full band to follow him on his journey. The band is now composed of Christofer Drew on vocals, guitar and uke, Taylor MacFee on bass, Hayden Kaiser on drums, Ian Davidson on guitar, and Tof Hoglen on the keys. With the new additions, their third album came out in 2011 entitled, Time Travel. These guys never take a break as the fourth album Indigo dropped just a year later and then dropped Sunflower in 2013. In 2015, NeverShoutNever! released their seventh studio album, Black Cat. Recorded in Los Angeles with Dennis Herring who has worked with Modest Mouse and Elvis Costello, this album still held the qualities of what made them famous six years ago but also introduced new electronic production.

NeverShoutNever! has also not been a stranger on the Billboard Charts. The downfall of most bands is putting out consistent records but that results in them lacking in quality. That has never been a problem for these guys as they continue to excel, grow and inspire other bands alike. Harmony peaked at #14, What Is Love? peaked at #24, Time Traveler took spot #35, Black Cat took #52, and The Summer EP peaked at #57.

With an intense amount of drive, passion and talent this band was able to put out a great record every single year. The amount of music that this band has single-handedly created is greater than what some artists do in a span of ten years. I can’t even name every project they have dropped or this will turn into a five paragraph essay. Even if one doesn’t like their music, it is impossible to insult them due to their longevity in the music business and lengthy discography.

Their success has been rightfully justifiable and this overnight success all started here at HIP Video Promo! Currently, when they are not basking in their glory, they are writing in the studio and interacting with all their loyal fans on their platforms. They just released a new EP this year entitled Violett Soul. With Drew’s hair finally out his eyes, he takes a more Bon Iver approach as he keeps true to himself with a ballad but a piano replaces their traditional punk production.

Check out “Love Me Tender”:

As their style changes, their talent stays within the lines of the lyrics. Present day they are still on tour ten years after their debut release. The show has been named the Songs Of Love tour and it will appear across America in September and October. It starts September 11th in Cambridge, MA and comes to an end October 4th. This intimate show acts as the thank you to their fans for always supporting them and pushing them to the level of popularity. They are not only dedicating this tour to their fans but also paying respect to the genre itself as they helped label and categorize slower and softer rock music that elevated other creatives and sometimes unfortunately imposters. NeverShoutNever! is often imitated but never duplicated- and that’s their stand out power.

We’ve been big fans of NeverShoutNever! since the beginning and shot them to their rightfully deserved stardom, and we are ecstatic to be promoting the leading punk pop prophets. We can’t wait to see what diverse artist becomes the next breakout star. Do you think your video has what it takes to be the next worldwide smash hit?
