Blog Flashback Friday: Dada Life October 18, 2019 Molly Hudelson Dada Life, Flashback Friday Here at HIP Video Promo, we’ve been working hard to promote music videos since the year 2000. It’s important to us to help younger and independent artists get the recognition they deserve, and it’s exciting to be on the ground floor with artists that become household names (and with over 3000 videos under our belts in 19 years, there are quite a few). Every Friday, we’ll be sharing a “Flashback Friday” video, where we get to reflect on one of our favorite videos from a few years ago. Electronic Dance Music (EDM) has come a long way since the early 2000s; now, it’s one of the most popular genres in the world. Dada Life separated themselves from other DJs during that period of growth. The Swedish DJ duo from Stockholm, Olee Corneer and Stefan Engblom teamed up in 2006. Together, they released two albums, Just Do The Dada and The Rules of Dada. They were met with major chart success in Belgium and The Netherlands while The Rules of Dada succeeded on the Billboard 200. The duo is known for their extravagant live sets and humorous stage presence. We first worked with Dada Life in 2015 for one of their top hits, “One Last Night On Earth.” In the music video, the end of the world is nearing, meaning it’s the perfect excuse for one last party. As a massive meteor hurtles towards the earth, a crew of friends looks at their impending doom with defiance and a determination to go out with a smile on their faces. The next video we promoted for Dada Life was in 2016, “Tic Tic Tic” ft. Lzzy Hale. A mob assembles in a dark room that is in need of an emotional release. As tension nears a boiling point, a pile of stuffed animals finds its way to the middle of the mob, and the release of all that pent-up energy can finally commence. Dada Life is still going strong, proving their big room house power in their third album, Our Nation, released in March 2018. The high energy album was a gift to fans from Engblom and Corneer. They believed EDM has gotten a little soft recently and wanted to bring back the bold energy. Dada Life has always created music meant for a wild party. There are no rules of Dada Life, just “Get ready to arrive beautiful and leave ugly.” There are three music videos to accompany Our Nation, made to be a three-part series. Animated characters run around in real life, leaving their comfort zone, escaping the horrors of the outside world, only to finally make it to paradise, Dada Land. What is Dada Land? Literally, it’s a live set by Dada Life. But metaphorically? It’s an escape. A place you can let go and be free from the stress and negativity of the real world. Everyone needs their own Dada Land… what’s yours? Written by HIP Administrative Assistant Melissa Ng.
